#EveryManHasAStoryToTell
The day I was mistaken for a Bomb carrier
It is exactly 2 years now (April 2015) but the incident still flashes back into my memory
In November 2014, Ashaka Cement Factory was attacked by boko haram in search of dynamites. When they left, the community became a ‘red alert zone’, vehicles doesn’t ply there as often as some vehicles had to move with military escorts. When I was soliciting for sponsorship for a community service at Gombe prison yard, I couldn’t get enough support in my local government (Gombe L.G.A), so I traveled to Ashaka (Funakaye L.G.A) to search for support. Because of how dangerous the road was, there was no direct motor to Ashaka, you have to go to Bajoga before entering a motorcycle that will take you through the road blocks and trenches. One day I received a call from the community Affairs Manager of Ashaka Cement Company (Alh. Sarki Isah Bajoga) that the company has agreed to sponsor some of my project (drugs for 900+ inmates). I went there to collect it and it was almost evening, the manager had to transport me and the load of drugs by himself quickly in order to bit the curfew.
He dropped me at the Motor Park and left as they loaded my drugs at the back of the Bus. When I entered the vehicle, immediately everyone ran away from me thinking that I was carrying a bomb.
They had to thoroughly search my loads. I felt humiliated but I realized it was done out of ignorance.
This is part of what we face for trying to make the world a better place.
I dedicate my story to those whose communities they are helping becomes part of their obstacles
Thank you Alhaji Sarki Isah Bajoga,
Thank you Corper Isah (CLO Ashaka),
Thank You Corper Kamal (for following up my solicitation letters to Ashaka),
Thank You Barrister Dan (for the transportation)
